In our viewing room, Broadway is pleased to announce a solo presentation of new works on paper by Los Angeles artist Devin Troy Strother. Made in a variety of mediums, pencil, ball-point, ink and acrylic, these works act as a kind of Id or narrative stream of consciousness that gives us insight to the artist’s painting and sculpture. We see Strother developing his bits here—riffs on culture from Phillip Guston to Fruit of The Loom—and teasing out compositional and chromatic strategies in a roadmap of his visual thinking. Accordingly, these are not merely studies for more substantial works, but rather a glimpse inside the mind of an artist who is, by turns, poignant, brutal and very funny.
